Treaty 4 Land Acknowledgement
As the Swan Valley Teachers’ Association is on Treaty 4 lands, we respect and honour the Treaties that were made on these territories that are the homes and the original lands of the Cree, Ojibwe, Saulteaux, Anishinaabe, the Dakotas, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past and present. We dedicate ourselves to move forward in partnership with the Indigenous Communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

SVTA Mission
The Swan Valley Teachers’ Association is dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the conditions in schools as well as advocating for a strong effective education system that is capable of meeting the needs of all students and teachers.
Your Voice In Action

Manitoba Teachers rally at the MB Legislative building to protect public education!

Representing your local at the Provincial level.
About Us
The Swan Valley Teachers’ Association (SVTA) is proud to be part of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS). We are one of 38 Teachers’ Associations in Manitoba, representing over 125 members employed by the Swan Valley School Division.
Our Executive is made up of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and up to 15 other members at large who shall serve as chairpersons and representatives from each school within the Swan Valley School Division.

Advocacy
SVTA builds relationships with school boards, parents, community groups, and government officials to ensure teacher’s voices are heard at the local and provincial level. SVTA defends and advocates for teachers’ rights and freedom from discrimination based on the human rights code of Manitoba and Canada.

SVTA is dedicated to providing a safer space that is a supportive, non-threatening environment where all participants can feel comfortable to express themselves and share experiences without fear of discrimination or reprisal regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or identity. We use the word safer to acknowledge that safety is relative: not everyone feels safe under the same conditions. By acknowledging the experiences of each person in the room, we hope to create as safe an environment as possible.
Activities
SVTA works with local community groups to provide events, grants, and scholarships.
